Cool Kitchen: Clean & Serene in NYC

Hoo boy, do I have a stunner for you today. This beautiful kitchen is currently the most popular kitchen tour at The Kitchn, and it’s not hard to see why. Belonging to Wendy, a New York-based musician, this space underwent an incredible transformation to become the clean and serene space you see here.

Obviously, I’m loving the colour scheme here. White, soft green, natural wood and carrera marble make for a soothing and sophisticated combination. My current favourite detail, the tiled wall, looks great here in a subway tile with variation and depth. Some considered lighting, modern chairs and a few green accessories complete the look.

Cool Kitchen: Austere yet Playful

OMG, OMG, OMG. Why don’t I read emmas designblogg more often? With so many fantastic sites out there, some good ones are bound to get overlooked from time to time. I’m still kicking myself though, because if I had been paying attention to Emma’s musings I would have found this amazing kitchen two whole weeks ago.

Austere yet Playful

From a home in the small Swedish town of Eskilstuna, this place has that industrial, slightly retro vibe that seems so typical of Swedish interiors (if we’re going by what the design mags tell us, anyway). The tile, wood-framed cabinets, stainless appliances and big wooden table are so tightly designed that the effect borders on austere. But those chairs! The bright green colour and fun shape add a playful edge that makes the room what it is.

Austere yet Playful

I adore the tiled walls, too- so clean-looking! If this was my room I might have been tempted to leave the back one plain for some killer art, which I always love in a kitchen. Still, if someone feels like buying me this home (it’s up for sale-see the rest of the house here), I won’t complain.

Cool Kitchen: Office Space

For today’s cool kitchen I’m featuring an old favourite of mine, dug up from the depths of the “Interiors Inspiration” folder on my desktop. This room is actually the office kitchen of Drew Barrymore’s production company, Flower Films. I don’t even remember where I found this photo, but I do know that it originated in the pages of Domino magazine, which featured the offices sometime in 2008.

Office Space

First of all, I love the shade of green on the wall, and how well it sets off the white fridge, chandelier and shelves of crockery. The wooden table, wicker chairs and butcher-block counters are a natural fit with this look. Throwing in the slightly-unusual black cabinets and the retro checkerboard floor keeps the whole thing fresh and fun. Perfect for a creative office, yes- but I’d love it in my own home.

Cool Kitchen: Chicago Calm

I had another space in mind for today’s Cool Kitchen, but threw my plans to the wind when I saw this kitchen in a Design*Sponge Sneak Peek yesterday. From the home of Chicago-based photographer Emily Anderson, it’s got all the elements I love in a kitchen: warm wood, modern functionality, a few quirky details and a peaceful ambience. Sure, you can’t see the whole space, but I think these photos do a great job of telling the story.

Emily’s whole apartment is gorgeous, so be sure to check out all the photos here.

Cool Kitchen: Green, coastal mod

I don’t usually read Coastal Living, but now and then I like to browse their site for design inspiration. The featured homes always have a charming, homespun, Cape Cod sort of feel, but every so often I’ll find something surprising.

Case in point: this contemporary kitchen. Not only do I love the colour of the cabinets (I know, so predicable), but I like the fun use of typography, too. The fact that the floors and countertops are the same colour keeps things streamlined horizontally, and stops the ceiling-height cabinets from taking over the space. The pendant lights and hints of red are also great, though I could pass on the crazy paneled ceiling.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that my favourite colour is green, and that a green-and-white kitchen with wooden countertops and stainless steel appliances is my heart’s desire. Check out these inspirational images of gorgeous green kitchens.

I love how unexpectedly elegant this kitchen corner is, with the bright tulips and the silver candlesticks tying into the lovely tap. Just a bit of Friday eye candy to leave you with. From Flickr user Supspace

Etsy find of the day: cake stands

I took a little blogging break yesterday for my boyfriend’s birthday. In the spirit of the celebration, check out these handmade cake stands from whitney smith pottery.

I love the colours of this Cherry Blossom Cake Stand:

The large Bird Cake Stand is particularly special, and it’s on sale:
