Bison Australia

I’ve been checking Bison Australia‘s website regularly for several months now, waiting for the perfect time to feature them here. I first discovered this ceramics company via Holly of Decor8 (check out her shop tour- the photos are lovely), and was instantly smitten with the fresh, modern and cheerful style of this brand. They’re meant to be opening an online shop soon (hence the frequent lurking), so I was going to wait until then for this post. It looks like the shop will be operational on June 1st, but I just can’t resist offering you a “sneak peek” today.

Doesn’t it seem like walking into a Bison store would be a multicoloured dream come true? I love how fashion-led the products seem; they even have a colour palette which changes yearly! I’m feeling the greens, greys, and forget-me-not blue… you?

Kähler

I first discovered Danish ceramics company Kähler several months ago, when The Kitchn featured one of their products. In business since 1839, today Kähler works with the best young designers in Denmark, producing products exemplify that oh-so-Scandi mix of innovation, elegance and fun. These are some of my favourite picks from their online shop:

Happy Monday! Let’s kick the week off with some covetable ceramics, shall we? You all know I’m a sucker for old-fashioned pottery, and Jason Russell‘s fits the bill perfectly. I’m digging the solid, rustic shapes and pleasing earth tones, as well as the odd splash of refreshing colour. Check out my picks from this great new shop.

Spring might be around the corner, but there’s still soup to be eaten. I’d like mine from one of these heavy soup bowls, please:

I love the colour and shape of these egg cups, too:

There’s something so lovely and retro-but-modern about these coffee mugs. I like the squat shape and the graceful dripping glaze:

Nesting bowls are always useful for prep and serving, and this striped set is pure country kitchen:

This blue serving bowl is my favourite item. The colour is to die for and the shape modern and understated:

Sometimes the internet just stresses me out- there’s so much to explore, and with every click I get further away from whatever it is I was supposed to be doing. At other times I let myself relax, clicking along to discover new talent without purpose or agenda, and it’s often this method that yields the best results.

Just the other day I was browsing the lovely Yvestown when I came across something I knew would be perfect for today’s post. Nina is a Dutch student, designer and craftsperson who has the loveliest Etsy shop. Working with new and vintage finds, she hand-paints ceramics, screen-prints, collages and takes photographs. Here are some of my favourite items from her shop.

I used to love making spirographs when I was little, and this spirograph bowl, made from a vintage piece, takes me back:

Ninainvorm

The lots of dots teapot has the most elegant 1960′s shape, contrasted with those fun polka-dots:

Ninainvorm

The dots and buntings sugar and creamer set might just be my favourite. I adore the shape of the pieces and the whimsical designs:

Ninainvorm

This folklore and fun breakfast set would be wonderful for a child. The traditional Dutch designs are original, while the dots and bunting are a fun addition:

There’s a wealth of design on this adorable cake plate set, from flowers to birds and bunting, too. I especially like the bright red dress on the cake plate:

Virginia Graham

The work of UK-based ceramacist Virginia Graham is insane, not to mention insanely beautiful. I’m loving the whimsical patchwork feeling and all the happy florals. I’ll definitely be looking out for her at Ceramic Art London 2010 at the end of the month.

The bowls especially kill me- aren’t they lovely? Be sure to check out the rest of Virginia’s work in her inspirational gallery.

Etsy finds: Fiestaware

I’ve rounded up Pyrex, milk glass and Dansk, and now it’s time to turn our attention to another vintage kitchen staple, Fiestaware. Produced by West Virginia’s Homer Laughlin China Company since 1936, this brightly-coloured tableware has loads of retro charm. While chatting to my Mum on the phone yesterday, she mentioned that she scored a green Fiestaware platter at the church bazaar for only $0.25! These pieces from Etsy might not be that affordable, but there are still some deals to be found.

The Daily Vintage has a turquoise Vegetable Bowl that I love:

Teapots are harder to find, and this cream one from msmichiganroux is in great condition:

This pair of bright teacups from Ginchy Gear are actually Harlequin, a less expensive alternative to Fiesta by the same company. I love the colour, though, so couldn’t resist including these:

For some real Fiesta teacups, I like these pink ones sold by Old Mother’s Cupboard. They have that cute vintage charm that’s so popular right now:

Fiesta Ware

I adore the marigold colour of this serving set from Retro Vertigo:

I hadn’t seen a Fiesta salt shaker before, and The Daily Vintage has two of them for sale! I like this red one best:

Etsy find: Prince Design UK

I didn’t manage to get an Etsy post done yesterday, but better late than never, right? Today I want to share the work of Prince Design UK, an Etsy shop run by Elizabeth Prince.

Elizabeth is a ceramicist who lives and works in Northern England, and sells her work online, as well as through independent retail shops. Her work is largely inspired by nature, but is contemporary in feel. Check out some of my favourite pieces.

This trio of Stacking Poppy Bowls is so pretty and delicate, I think they’d look great on a kitchen windowsill:

Prince Design UK

Elizabeth does a whole bunch of individual poppy bowls, too. This large Salad Bowl is gorgeous:

The perforated Colander and Fruit Bowl is multipurpose- suitable for both washing and storing fruits:

I love the Lacy Bird Bowl Duo, a set of shallow dishes that can be used for display, as well as practically:

The Flying Ducks Dessert Plate is simply adorable, and I can definitely picture serving up some pie on it:

Not exactly kitchen-related (though I suppose you could hang them anywhere), these Butterfly Snowflake Christmas Ornaments are pretty and festive, without being kitsch:

Look! Baked by Formafantasma

While catching up on my reading lately (some sites on my long-neglected blogroll), I came across these lovely images on Dezeen. Originally posted last month, they’re of an exhibition at Dutch Design Week, which took place at the end of October. I loved the idea and images so much I just had to share.

Baked

The Baked collection is a work by Italian designers Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma, and was presented as part of the “Getting Lost” exhibition in Eindhoven.

Baked

Based on a Sicilian custom where flour is baked into architectural decorations, the collection includes objects made of flour, coffee, spices and other foods. Intended as an ode to the craftsmanship of baking, the result is in beautiful and changeable collection of art objects. I just love the photos- gorgeous, no?

Etsy find: Esther Coombs

I was so happy to find the shop of illustrator Esther Coombs on Etsy. Most shops I feature are American, so to come across home-grown UK talent is definitely something special. Esther applies her modern ink drawings to vintage ceramics, resulting in a unique and whimsical pieces. Here are a few of my favourite finds from her shop:

This My Garden Cake Stand is perfect for serving up some sweet treats:

The candy-coloured Chequer Street Tea Set is covered with little scenes of English life, and is one of my favourites in the shop:

Another favourite is this Paris Street Cake Plate. I love the image of the old fashioned streetlight; it’s almost too pretty to cover up, even with cake:

In staying with the Paris theme, how about this Metro Tea Cup and Saucer? I’m liking the blue colour and moody imagery- it seems perfect for a nighttime cuppa:

I like these cute Seed Markers for the garden. If I had outdoor growing-space I’d definitely be buying some:
