Cool Kitchen: Grown-up Scandinavian

I was tipped off to Swedish home mag Hus & Hem by Holly of decor8 fame. After she posted several gorgeous photos from the site, I knew I had to check it out. Of course I don’t understand a word written (beyond figuring out that kök must mean kitchen), but I sure enjoy looking at the photos of lovely Scandinavian design!

Cool Kitchen: Grown-up Scandinavian

At first glance, I didn’t think this kitchen was my style: it’s posh, polished, and a little too “grown-up” for my tastes. But I kept coming back to it, and began to notice the little details that make it fresh. The shiny, continuous backsplash looks newer than a tiled one, and the touches of black are unexpected and edgy. Also, is that a tulle light fixture? I so need one of those.

Apart from the inventive light fixture (what the frig is that thing???) this is pretty much my dream kitchen, with a few more splashes of colour thrown in.

Hil, you’re so funny. The light fixture is my favourite thing in this photo! I love the touch of whimsy it adds- I think the space might be a bit staid without it.

But yes, this is pretty much how I see your “someday” kitchen. Very sophisticated, with a mix of white, black, stainless steel and blush pink.
