Photo find: Karen Mordechai

Karen Mordechai is the multi-talented lady behind Sunday Suppers, a name I’m sure many of you have heard before. The company was founded to provide cooking classes and dining experiences to lucky, lucky people in the New York City area.

Karen herself is both a stylist and photographer of food and weddings, making her well-suited to turning out stunning events. The gorgeous images below are from her portfolio, which showcases a mix of work for her own company and others’. Enjoy, and have a Happy Friday my friends!

Cool Kitchen: Crazy, creative

I found this eclectic Stockholm kitchen over at Emma’s designblogg, who in turn found it at Koolandkreativ. Ok, I’ll admit the space is a bit nuts. It’s not to everyone’s tastes (I’m not even sure it’s to my taste) but I just can’t stop looking at it. There’s just so much to take in- the bucket-turned-pendant-lamp, the open industrial shelving, the candy ball machine on the counter and the hanging scale on the wall. I don’t know, maybe it’s that I recently picked up a copy of Etcetera by stylist Sibella Court, but lately I’ve just been loving a quirky, collected interiors.

While I don’t know that I’d take every idea from this space, I think there’s definitely some great inspiration to be found here. What do you think?

A Floral Frenzy

Around this time of year design blogs become inundated with talk of “looking forward to Spring” and adoring “bright, happy colours”. I usually don’t participate in this; I hate to break it to you, but we still have months of winter ahead of us.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m immune to pretty, cheerful products. The high street is awash with florals these days, and no matter how far away Spring may actually be, they’re helping to keep a smile on my face. Check out some of my favourite floral-inspired pieces:

1. I adore Marks & Spencer‘s new Elizabeth dinnerware line; such a fresh take on traditional tableware. 2. Always reliable for pretty things, Anthropologie does it again with its After Showers butterfly tea towel. 3. I love this sweet ceramic pig from the V&A shop. It would make a great cookie jar! 4. Blue storage jar from PIP Studio. 5. Liberty oven glove in classic Eloise print. 6. Habitat‘s Concetta Teapot is wonderfully whimsical.

Cool Kitchen: Modern & Quirky in Berlin

Holly always gives the best tips. Last week, she tipped me (along with her other 35,000 daily readers) off to Freunde von Freunden, and I couldn’t be happier about it. A bit like The Selby but based in Berlin, this interviews-and-photography site features some fantastically interesting and creative people, and the interiors to match. The photos are huge and expertly shot, so it didn’t take me too long to find a kitchen worth drooling over.

Olaf Hajek is a Berlin-based illustrator with a decorating style equal parts minimal and quirky, both of which are apparent in his killer kitchen. I love the different materials used for the galley and island, which work together but create some interesting tension. The skirted sink is both industrial and sweet, and the small vintage side table keeps the whole place casual. Of course, the real star here is the blackboard wall; what an awesome idea for an illustrator! An changing gallery of work, and a great way to “zone” the kitchen in an open-plan space. The unexpected fluorescent lights are are the icing on the cake.

Be sure to check out the rest of this space, and the others on the Freunde von Freunden site.

Etsy finds: Cozy cozies

Happy New Year, everyone! My break went a little longer than originally planned, due to excessive snow in the UK, last-minute timetable changes and an impromptu trip home to Canada. I’m back in London now, and ready to embrace 2011 with open arms. But as we all know, January can be a dreary, depressing month. My top tip for beating the blues? Stay inside with a mug of something warm and steaming. To keep it that way, check out these handmade cozies from Etsy:

1. I received one of Anne Bursey’s Wool Coffee Warmers for Christmas, and can’t wait to put it through its paces. Like a touque for your Bodum! 2. I’ve featured KnitStorm‘s work before, but this bright orange cozy was too sweet to resist.

3. This set of two knitted egg cozies from Imali is just about the sweetest thing ever, don’t you think? 4. But of course, Riley Co.‘s Forest Fox Coffee Cozy could give them a run for their money. 5. I love the traditional style of this Cornishware-style striped tea cozy from The Fluffy Duck.

6. This chic tea cozy from Argyle St. is made from luxurious cashmere felt.  7. Inklore‘s Ray of Light linen cozy is modern chic at its best.
